Dr Salim is a Consultant Dermatologsit based at Solihull hospital.  She does a monthly combined Dermatology/HIV clinic at HeartlandsHospital with the other members of the HIV team.  She came back to the West Midlands in 2004 to take up a Consultant post – having worked as a junior doctor in Coventry.  Her dermatology training, however, was completed in Oxford.  During this period she obtained a fellowship to work in Cape Town, South Africa  where she spent some time looking after HIV postive children with skin dermatoses.  This was a very exciting time since antiretroviral therapy was only just being introduced in Cape Town and most of the children were receiving treatment through charitable organizations.

Alena is a general dermatologist and although skin cancer makes up the bulk of her work she has a special interest in skin problems relating to HIV and vulval dermatoses.
